I recently built/installed libgpuarray revision 5bce44f on MacOS 10.11.6 on a Macbook Pro with an AMD Radeon R9 M370X with Theano revision dd9adf8 and Python 2.7.12 (the latter installed via Anaconda). I ensured that libgpuarray was built using Apple's llvm 7.3.0 from Xcode. When I try running the test program at [1] with THEANO_FLAGS=device=opencl0:2,floatX=float32, I observe the following:
[CL_DEVICE_NOT_AVAILABLE] : OpenCL Error : Error: Build Program driver returned (-2) OpenCL Warning : clBuildProgram failed: could not build program for 0x1021c00 (AMD Radeon R9 M370X Compute Engine) (err:-2) [CL_BUILD_ERROR] : OpenCL Build Error : Compiler build log: No kernels or only kernel prototypes found. Has anyone managed to successfully use the OpenCL backend on MacOS with the above GPU using a recent revision of libgpuarray? OpenCL on the Macbook seems to be working because I can use the AMD GPU with OpenCL via PyOpenCL. [1] http://deeplearning.net/software/theano/tutorial/using_gpu.html#id1 -- Lev E.
