Constant and SharedVariable are different subclass of Variable. So if you
just want to know if an object is a Theano Variable, you can just call

isinstance(obj, theano.Variable)

The variables related to random are sometimes subclass of SharedVariable
(for the state) ( the random on the CPU that wrap numpy generator).
