Saw this kit, liked it, bought it, blah blah blah...

I scratch built the base myself. I tried to give it an angular CABINET OF DR. CALIGARI look, in keeping with the whole German Expressionism thing (can you tell I went to art school?). Anyhoo, I sculpted it with Super Sculpy, and made urethane molds of it, from which I cast resin positives. Not the cheapest procedure in the world, but better in the long run, as I know all my Sculpy bases will probably crack over time (sniff).

The kit came with a lantern, but it was cast in solid resin. And that ainât right. So I figured Iâd scratch build my own. Easier said than done - I looked high and low, and I could not locate a clear tube from which to build a lantern. So I decided to scratch build a set of keys instead. Also easier said then done, but done nonetheless. These were made from earring posts, oval chain links, some small beads, and sheet styrene. I made several different sizes, and painted them in shades of gold and metallic grays.

Rats. I need rats.

Note from the webmaster - Phil's too modest to mention that this model won "Best in Show" at the Fall 2002 Kitbuilders Show.
So I will. Congrats, Phil!
