Lestat de Lioncourt
Lestat was the seventh son and one of the only three sons who survived to adulthood. At the age of twelve he wanted to pursue life in a monastery, his father forbids it and takes his books away. Lestat attempted to run away with a wandering theater group, but was taken back to Auvergne. Lestat's mother, Gabrielle, was hurt by his running away. Lestat loves Gabrielle, but resents her sometimes for not teaching him how to read and for her silence. Lestat goes out to destroy a pack of eight wolves one day and nearly dies trying. He manages to kill all eight however. As a result of his bravery, Nicolas, befriended him. Together they went to Paris and they found jobs in a theater there, Lestat found his fame as an actor. Magnus, a vampire, abducted Lestat one night and forces the Dark Gift on him. After teaching Lestat the most basic things he had to know, he made Lestat promise to scatter his ashes, after he killed himself in the fire. Lestat reluctantly agrees and Magnus destroys himself. Lestat was frightened after being left alone. He had no teacher to teach him and has to understand his new existence alone. Lestat's sense of Magnus had left him priceless treasures, and he uses them to buy the theater and gifts for Nicolas. He made Gabrielle into a vampire when she came to see him for the last time. In the middle of their exploration they encounter Armand's coven. Armand uses Nicolas to lure Lestat to them. Instead, Lestat shattered the coven, and made Nicolas into a vampire. However, instead of becoming closer, Lestat and Nicolas soon drifted apart. Armand then wants to join Lestat and Gabrielle and tells him his life's story. Lestat refused to let Armand join them and persuaded him to manage the Theatre des Vampires instead. Fascinated by Armand's story about Marius, Lestat searched for him. The search took ten years and Lestat morning over Gabrielle's depart and Nicolas's suicide, went into ground. Marius then arrives and brought him to an island, where he tells Lestat his story and about Those Who Must be Kept. Lestat awakens Akasha and drank from her blood, before Enkil separates them. Lestat then went to New Orleans to take care of his aging father. He met Louis there and made him into a vampire, later on making Claudia. They lived together for sixty-five years, before she finally rose against him. Broken and weak, Lestat went underground again in 1929. He awakens in the 20th century by rock music and becomes a rock singer himself. Lestat then publishes his own autobiography. Lestat's music awakens Akasha and she abducts him. Lestat gains a lot of power from Akasha's blood and she teaches him how to fly, move or burn things using his mind. Even though he loved her, he could not stand with her. In the end Mekare destroyed her. In The Tale of the Body thief, he switches body with Raglan James, to feel what it's like to be human again. He ended up hating it and had to track down James to regain his vampire body. With the help of David, he succeeded. Then Lestat made David into a vampire without his consent. Lestat's last adventure was with Memnoch. He visited hell and heaven. The experience left him shaken and puts him in extreme misery. In the end, he asked to be pass from fiction to legend. Lestat lives according to his own whim and in brash defiance of social order of rules and conduct. He never lives by rules and love breaking them. He enjoys taking risks and somehow always gains from them. As a vampire, Lestat wants to use his evil image to do good, so he only feeds from evil mortals. |
