The storm raged on. At Collinwood, Willie and Amy both sat in front of the
fireplace trying to get warm and dry. Carolyn had opened the door and had
found them shivering in the doorway.
When Julia came downstairs, she was surprized to see Amy. When she went over
to her, she asked her if Sabrina knew where she was, Amy shook her head.
"Dr. Hoffman."
"Yes, Amy."
"Is Barnabas gone?"
"Yes, Amy. Why?"
"Did anyone look in the caves?"
"Why?"
"In a dream I had last night, I saw him in the opening of a cave."
Willie heard the conversation between Amy and Julia and went over to them.
"Amy, do you think you could find it?"
"Maybe."
Carolyn had found dry clothes for both of them. After they changed clothes,
they both started walking toward the door. Julia hurried after them and
caught them each by an arm.
"Where do you two think you are going?"
"To find the cave."
"Not in this weather. You both got wet already."
Willie and Amy turned around and went back into the drawing room. Elizabeth
Stoddard went into the drawing room and told Amy that she called Sabrina and
told her that Amy was at Collinwood and could stay if she wanted.
When David went downstairs, he was surprized to see Amy there.
"Are you staying for awhile?"
"Yes.
Julia suddenly missed Willie. When she went to search for him, she found the
door open and him in the doorway watching the rain. She knew what he was
watching for. She thought he was looking for Barnabas.
(at the house by the sea)
Adam knew when he got out of bed that someone was outside. He put on his
robe and shoes and started going to see who was outside. On the way,he thought
that maybe Nicholas had come back. He knew that he was not going to let him
back in the house. He shouldn't have left him behind like he did after he had
toldhim he was taking him along and he had been foolish enough to believe him.
Adam opened the door and went outside. He saw a man laying on the ground. He
was not moving. Adam knelt down and put two fingers against the man's neck.
When he felt a heartbeat, he took him inside. It took awhile, but it finally
dawned on Adam who the man was. It had been awhile since he had seen him at
the Old House, but he finally recognized Barnabas.
When Barnabas woke up, he didn't know where he was. He just knew he was
cold. He knew someone was in the room with him. When he opened his eyes, he
saw
Adam sitting in a chair by the bed he was laying on. Barnabas tried to sit up,
but Adam gently pushed him back down.
"How long have I been here?"
"I don't know. I found you laying outside in the rain."
"How's Dr. Hoffman?"
"She's fine."
Adam wondered if everyone at the Old House was still angry with him for the
things he did after he met Nicholas, but he was afraid to ask.
