One of my all time favorite vampire actors, Sir Christopher Lee, has written a
forward for an auto-biography...I'm always interested in what my favorite
vampires are doing, so I thought I'd share this article from Crypt Master

Christopher Lee has written the foreward for "A Forehead Pressed Against A
Window," Robert Rietti's autobiography. Film aficionados and pop culture
experts know Rietti as the voice of the James Bond villians, for his work with
the BBC, for his years of superb acting and voice-overs, and so much more. We
know him for his special guest appearances telling great stories on the
"GHOSTours to England."
Here is a Horror Happenings exclusive -- Christopher Lee's actual foreward for
the book:
"This is a remarkable book: amusing, informative and serious. I have known
Robert Rietti and his father for many years, and have admired their talents in
so many fields. Robert and I have performed together in numerous films and
although he is a well-respected actor in his own right, I was not aware of his
many other facets and activities until I read his autobiography. I found it not
only fascinating, but also full of advice which will be of enormous use to
students as well as active members of the profession.
So many of us tend to feel that “we know it all” and that we have no need to
practise our art when we are ‘resting’ between jobs. In the field of music,
singing, and playing instruments, artistes must never let up and are constantly
practising and enlarging their repertoire, but few actors realize the
importance of keeping their talents ‘in tune’ as it were, when they are not
actually performing. I understand that the great Italian actress Eleonora Duse
would spend several hours each day, closeted in her hotel bedroom, going over
her role before the evening performance, analyzing why she did not get an
expected reaction to certain speeches or lines and searching for new nuances
and interpretation of a role she may have already performed numerous times in
different cities.
We actors are the laziest of all members of the ‘fraternity’ and seldom if ever
give a thought to finding improvements in our performance once it has been
rehearsed and ‘set.’ Robert’s father, Victor, aside from being one of our best
and most charming members of the profession, must have been a great teacher
for, with the method he put his son through, he shows us how essential it is to
continue studying even when we have achieved recognition or ‘status.’ For this
reason – as well as enjoyment of Robert’s many anecdotes - I recommend this
book to every student as well as seasoned actor. It should be essential reading
in all academies and schools of acting.
He is a truly gifted story-teller and keeps the reader glued to the page. Of
the many autobiographies I have read (we actors are prone to write too much
about ourselves) this is far and away the most interesting. The stage has
clearly lost a fine talent due to his having specialised in and spent so much
time re-voicing other actors in films and directing the dubbing of entire films
from other languages (even from English to English)! And in this unrewarding
and almost anonymous activity he has earned the praise and admiration of the
entire film world.
I am proud to have been invited to write a foreword to this book."
"A Forehead Pressed Against a Window" is published by Ari Scharf Publications
at £15.
(USA: $19.99) plus £3 P.&P. in the U.K. There is not yet a U.S. publisher or
distributor. Signed copies may be obtained from Gambit International at The
Studio, 50, Eagle Lodge, Golders Green Road, London NW11 8BE.
