If Anne Rice died, would that mean fanfiction on the Vampire Chronicles would be allowed?For those who don't know, she's against the use of fanfiction with her characters. She harrassed fanfic writers to remove all of their fics off the internet. If Anne Rice died, would this mean that fanfiction for VC would be acceptable again; or would legal action still be open?

I didn't even thing about someone else holding the possible rights. Her rights to her material don't die with her but remain for the next seventy years after her death. Whoever inherits those rights may not protect them as ardently, but s/he might be even more zealous. If you really want to write fanfic, then write it--just don't share it if the author is among those who protect the use of the characters, setting, and situations she invented.
