Thanks for the link to the great video, Mistress! Real Vampires DON'T sparkle, and I, for one, want REAL vampires! Who has time for those cute, teenybopper vamps in the Twilight Series? They get way too much publicity. Makes me wonder why all of the other vampires, the REAL vampires, the one's who made this genre famous get ignored? There IS that Johnny Depp remake of "Dark Shadows" coming out, but I've seen some of the still shots from the film and quite frankly, Johnny Depp look downright stupid with those Barnabas bangs! The Director, Tim Burton has even stolen the pale skin and long fingernails from "Interview With A Vampire", but as usual he's over done it. The fingernails are too long, and Johnny Depp looks too pale and pasty. In some of the still shots, he looks like Micheal Jackson with all that white make up and red lipstick! Yikes! On top of that, they chosen the wrong cast. ALL of the female characters are BLONDES! They're also bi*chy-looking, and made to look overly sexy. I can't believe they chose Michelle Pfiffier to play Elizabeth Collins Stoddard! Elizabeth was NOT blond, and she did NOT wear her hair down. Michelle Pfiffer is a lovely woman, but she can not compare to the beautiful Joan Bennett who made the role famous. Joan was a thoroughly talented actor, who brought her own kind of style to the character. Elizabeth was always a Regal, educated, and sophisticated lady, who carried herself with pride and grace. Pfiffer will NEVER upstage her.
Once again, they've made Willie Loomis into a stooped over, slope-shouldered retard. Putting Jackie Earl Haley in the role was an outright insult to John Karlen and all of us John Karlen fans. In the 1991 series Remake, Willie was portrayed also as a retard, with an eyepatch dresed in hillbilly overalls! There were so many GOOD actors they could have chosen to play Willie, and look what they choose! Jackie Earl Haley was a child actor back in the 70s. He was mediocre then, and he can't be any better now. I haven't hear of a single role he's played in over 20 years! In this movie, hard working Mrs Johnson is a senile old woman, and Carolyn is a fourteen year old kid! They just couldn't resist adding the kiddie actor for all the teenybopper babies they want to attract to come see the film. Vickie is being played also by a blond, and they screwed up the entire backstory of the series by having Angelique, of all people LIVING with the Collins family! Willie is also living with and working for the Collinses, which is another dumb move because the Collinses hated Willie. The only character who was rightly cast was Helen Bonham Carter as Julia Hoffman. She looks great as Julia and I'm sure she will handle the role well. The guy playing Roger is much too old...and shall I add, UGLY. Louis Edmonds was handsome, and very much fit the role of a snobbish rich guy. As for Johnny Depp, he'd a brilliant actor and can do much better than this! After his success in the Captain Jack Sparrow role, he could have done wonderful thing with the Barnabas character, if he hadn't teamed with that moron, Tim Burton. Burton can't resist creating a campy atmosphere in any film he does. Johnny Depp, looking positively like "Death Warmed Over" in this film, with that hideous, chalky-white complexion, and long, pointed fingernails, NO FAMILY would invite someone who looked as gruesome as that into their house, let alone befriend him. And, I don't care HOW WEALTHY he is! The Collinses would either suspect he was a drug-addled AIDS victim, or some oddball into the Goth scene and Goth Music. I wouldn't let a guy with nails like that anywhere near my house! And, in one of the still shots I have of him, his coat is so wrinkled, it looks like he's been sleeping it! Burton could have at least gotten it dry cleaned before using it in the movie. I do appologize for the rant, but Dark Shadows is my all time favorite TV series, and seeing it screwed up this way, really, REALLY ticks me off! I've got a good mind to bite everyone responsible for this travesty, and FORCE them to do it over, the RIGHT way...Beginning with a brand new cast! You can bet that Right Fang Girl isn't going to be wasting her money to see this insult in the theater. I'll wait until it ends up in the $5.00 bargain bin at Wal Mart. This film may end up being the first bomb in Johnny Depp's career! What do YOU think, Fledglings? Is this a hit, or an insult? Gloria Right Fang Girl "You know I can't escape. Don't you think I've wanted to, tried to? I go out of this house almost every day, ride into town. Don't you think that while I'm there, I have the impulse to step on the gas, never stop drivin' until I'm thousands of miles away? I tried it a few times, but he's got this power. My will isn't my own. I keep seeing him, hearing him--he's done something to my mind!"
