Hi everyone, No "weekly focus" post this week. Maybe next week I will have something.
I do have two short comments regarding joint work with Daniel and DJ. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Has Daniel given up on the Anarcho-Leninist Debate on the State? ----------------------------------------------------------------- I sent the following email to Daniel, my debate opponent in the "Anarcho-Leninist Debate on the State" at http://struggle.net/ALDS > Hi Daniel, > It has now been more than six months since I posted > part 7 of the Anarcho-Leninist Debate on the State. > In that time I have heard nothing from you to indicate > that you intend to post your concluding installment. > In fact it has been more than a year (nearly 15 > months in fact) since I have heard from you. > It appears that you have either lost interest in the debate > or given up on any attempt to complete your final installment. > Daniel -- I believe it would be best if you were to make a > short statement (even a single sentence would be fine) > indicating that you are no longer interested in continuing > the debate. This would create a certain amount of clarity. > We began the debate with high hopes that calm, thoughtful > and scientific discussion would create something of value > to activists. We both poured a fairly large amount of our > time and life energy into our installments. I think it is best > that we conclude matters openly. > If, by some chance, you have not given up on your > participation -- then please send an email to me and the > pof-200 list making it clear that you intend to complete > your reply. In that case I will post a notice to the debate > site that readers can expect a reply by the end of the year > (this assumes that another 90 days would be enough time > for you). I should note that, shortly after I posted part 7, I also asked another participant of this list, an anarcho-communist who runs the site at: http://question-everything.mahost.org if he would like to reply to part 7. He declined. If Daniel is not interested in completing his final installment then I believe the debate should be considered concluded. It appears unlikely to me that we will be able to find an anarchist minded activist who would have the ability and the determination to carefully ready the arguments in the debate and respond to them. At this point I would like to thank Daniel for the many, many hours of his busy life that he poured into his debate installments. My installments, which are among the most powerful (ie: comprehensive and readable) articles I have written -- would not have been possible with Daniel. ----------------------------------------------------------------- DJ and the beginnings of practical work ----------------------------------------------------------------- I did note that DJ has replied to my criticisms. I read DJ's reply very carefully. However I am not going to reply to DJ at this time. I believe that the main focus of my relationship with DJ must be on practical work. If I forget that -- then I am not really a militant activist. If DJ and I work in concert to create a page (or pages) that prove valuable to the struggle against reformism -- this can help to create a solid foundation for a powerful revolutionary relationship between DJ and me. This would be a step forward. In my view, the party of the future will arise out of a dense and robust network of powerful revolutionary relationships between serious, militant activists. These powerful relationships will develop out of practical work on tasks that are of real service to activists and to the revolutionary movement. Exploration of my differences with DJ is not unimportant. But I believe it is less important than practical work. If practical work develops, then there will be plenty of time to sort out the various mysteries of the universe that only reveal themselves to those who are armed with patience, determination and humility. The Augean stables of myth and legend will not be cleansed in a day. I did note that DJ has begun work on a page that he and I will jointly edit on the nature of the struggle against reformism. I would like to see some development of that common effort before I invest additional energy into exploring DJ's response to my criticisms. Sincerely and with revolutionary regards, Ben Seattle ----//-// Sept 24, 2004 http://struggle.net/Ben (my elists / theory / infrastructure) My emails to various lists: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/theorist/messages Want to keep updated about my work?
