Summer is a great time to clean out unwanted items. Start with your closets, drawers and cupboards. Hit the discount superstores to get low-cost plastic drawers and containers for small items. Find a shoe rack or on-the-door hanging organizer with pockets to straighten out that messy pile of shoes. Use portable closet storage boxes or drawers to neatly arrange and protect sweaters and other off-season clothing. Home offices can become one huge junk drawer if left unattended. Use empty nut or snack cans to store batteries and paperclips. Keep three year's worth of taxes, and toss out old paperwork that you no longer need. Remember to shred all confidential and financial records. Set-up an easy-to-use filing system, so you're never discouraged from keeping paperwork in its rightful place. When you tackle little tasks as they arise, organization never gets out of hand. Are your kitchen cupboards dumping more Tupperware on you than they're holding? Stack them neatly, and trash unmatching containers and lids. Go through your shelves and donate sealed food you'll never use to the local food bank, ensuring its not already expired. Store items in open boxes and bags in transparent plastic or glass storage containers instead. These stack and store more effectively. Bathrooms are often small, so storage is golden. Ensure that none of your over-the-counter or prescription medications have gone beyond their expiration date. Use up and toss sample items, rarely used hair care and styling products and other beauty items. Use shower caddies and towel racks to store robes, shampoos and soaps. Use drawer dividers to keep hair brushes and small items in their place. Remember, if you don't use it, don't keep it. When you clean up your surroundings, you'll find it easier to complete simple, day-to-day tasks.
