It can be hard to leave your pet at home during all these adventures. Pets are a part of our family, so we miss them during long stays away. But you can travel with your pet. Read the following tips on ways you can prepare a safe and low-stress vacation. 1. Find Pet-friendly Lodging. There's plenty of hotels and motels offering lodging for both you and your pet. But check directly with the facility in advance to find out their policy and any additional fees required. 2. Visit the Vet. Before you leave, bring your pet to the vet and let the doctor know where you plan to go, and for how long. He or she may suggest vaccinations (required for international travel), sedatives or motion-sickness medications (for car travel). 3. Use a Pet-carrier and/or Leash. When traveling by air, bus or train, ensure you have the appropriate pet carrier required by the airline or other travel company. When traveling by car, place you pet safely and securely in a carrier. Loose pets are not only a hazard to the driver, but have no protection should an accident occur. 4. Ventilate and Hydrate. When traveling by car, give your pet the right amount of ventilation during hot days. Leaving your pet in a sealed car during warm to hot weather can be fatal. Also, take stops occasionally, so your pet can get a drink of water. Our furry friends get thirsty just like we do. 5. Avoid Rush Hour. Crowds make pets nervous. While these tips can help you prepare for your travels, you should also follow your instinct and abide by your pet's own natural tolerance. Do they travel well? What is their routine? Take care of their needs on the road just as you would in your own home. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright (c) 2006 Vasrue.com. All Rights Reserved.
