Ask Paris Hilton what she thinks of flowers and she's likely to
give her trademark response, "They're hot!" And, I'm certain
that if you walk into any hotel in the Hilton line and you're
very likely to see some beautiful flowers adorning the lobby and
other public areas. That's because people in the decorating and
design industry, such as those responsible for the interior
design of Hilton hotels, understand that flowers are an excellent
way to make people feel welcome and relaxed.

In a study conducted through a partnership between the Society of
American Florists (SAF) and Rutgers University, the State
University of New Jersey, flowers were proven to make people feel
happier - and happy people, are relaxed people. The study
provided results that specifically showed that people who
received flowers immediately felt happier and felt that way for
the long-term. They were also more likely to make personal
connections with others. Surely those are feelings hotels want to
evoke in their customers.

It would seem the hotel industry isn't the only business jumping
on to the floral bandwagon. It's pretty common to see
strategically placed flowers in television commercials -
particularly those selling items for the home, like air
fresheners and cleaning products. Even companies that sell skin
care products are beginning to see the benefit of using flowers
to help market their goods.

Neutrogena, makers of cosmetics and other skin care products, has
launched a national ad campaign that recommends flowers as a part
of your daily routine to help give your day a positive spin. The
ads read "Five Ways to Simple Luxury at Work" and say, "Even a
single stem can help elevate your mood." The ads are appearing
in women's magazines all over the United States.

The health industry, too, has recognized the positive affect
flowers have on our lives. In the September 2006 issue of Health
magazine an article titled "31 Easy Tips for a Happy Healthy
You," flowers are tip number three. The tip reads, "Get a
floral fix." In fact, the article even refers to the SAF and
Rutgers study.

So, while florists and Paris Hilton's family have long known
flowers have a positive impact on people and sales, the rest of
the world is now catching on! Watch for more companies to start
using flowers in their advertising campaigns.
