To many, it is a never ending discussion which can lead to arguments and debates that can jump from topic to topic. For others, it is a topic that should be left well enough, alone. I personally find the topic to not only be interesting, but also very important. To many, it is a never ending discussion which can lead to arguments and debates that can jump from topic to topic. For others, it is a topic that should be left well enough, alone. I personally find the topic to not only be interesting, but also very important. After recently having a discussion about the spiritual aspects of living in this era, the following questions were posed... Do you find that this time frame that we are living in is perfect for open minded Spiritual individuals to thrive, or the opposite, that the powers that be, governed by a strict moralistic approach more bent on control than actual enlightenment, will stop at nothing to squash different thinking? Are you worried about the future of our free society, or do you think that the time is ripe for a new way?" Now, this could be a very difficult question, or an easy one, depending on how a person looks at it. I find this to be very interesting; my initial thought being, "where do I begin to answer this". Well, the way I see it, these times are perfect as far as a challenge goes for open minded spiritual people. On the other hand, there are so many different religions with their own set of standards and expectations that it's almost impossible to choose one without the lingering thought of "are these the right teachings?". This is why I completely separate religion from being spiritual. I am spiritual, meaning I do not claim a religion for the simple fact that I feel I can't go wrong as long as I do believe and worship a higher source, which for me is God. I do believe that Jesus is Lord and that he died for our sins. I am also solid in my belief that without our heavenly Father, nothing would have been or will ever be possible. There is way too much controversy these days about needing to go to church to worship. The way I feel about it, anywhere you pray is considered God's home. There isn't one special place where he listens over any other. Many people look down upon people who don't warm a seat in church "every single Sunday" but they fail to realize that everybody in the church is in their for their own reasons. You have the ones who go there just to say they attend...leaving there with no more than what they came in with; swearing before they can even get across the street from the church. Then there are those who go just for status, or to "out dress". Others use it as just another part of the dating scene. I don't particularly like to use the word hypocrite, but the very people who consider themselves strong in their beliefs and incorporates it into their daily lives but does not attend a church is better off. I do believe that fellowshipping with other believers is important but again, that can be done on the daily, outside of the church. I find myself doing that at least twice a day, whether it is on the train, the supermarket, at work or anywhere else. It is a huge part of who I am and I get spiritually fed by other's just sharing what I know and listening to their views. I am worried about the future in a sense, not for myself but for lost souls. Just like in biblical days, the same things still go on with the twist of time. But then again it's all about how the ways of the world can sway a person. I have taught myself how not to look at this world at face value. In my eyes everything is disguised until we make an effort to see it differently. Actually, really "seeing" the world is easier than just living it the way it's laid out. The smallest details are the biggest ones to me. People get caught up with too much superficial and possessions. There is NOTHING here on this earth that we own besides our own love, which was actually given to us to share with others. How can someone claim another human being when we don't even have the authority to claim ourselves? It is ridiculous, yet people kill over it. But it is reasons like these that make it important for us all to force ourselves to see the world in a higher light. These days I see it as the only means of surviving. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Written by: Siobhan Gamble.
