Florist From Jessica Simpson's Home State Designs Ford's Funeral Flowers

Pop star Jessica Simpson isn't the only talent to come out of
the state of Texas. One Texas florist is considered so talented
that she was tapped to provide flowers for President Gerald
Ford's California and Michigan funerals.

Sherri Gerland, owner of the Floral Marketing International Group
(FMI Group) in Houston, Texas, was asked to provide the flowers
for Ford's funerals following his December 26, 2006 death at his
home in Rancho Mirage, California. FMI Group's flowers were, in
fact, the only ones that were allowed to appear in the church
ceremonies in both California and Michigan.

Together with designer Dee Logan, who works in the FMI Group's
Orlando office, designed monochromatic arrangements of white
using Casablanca lilies, hydrangeas, roses, stock, Dendrobium
orchids, and callas. In addition, they made wreaths to be
displayed at Ford's alma maters, Yale Law School and the
University of Michigan.

Though Gerland and Logan made designing Ford's funeral flowers
look easy, Gerland said that transporting them during the holiday
season "was a logistics nightmare." Gerland paid Continental
Airlines $370 to ship flowers to California and "joked that
[she] was buying them a seat." She shipped flowers to Michigan
using DHL's overnight service.

Gerland was contacted almost a year-and-a-half ago by
Houston-based Service Corporation International, which is the
largest owner of cemeteries and funeral homes in the entire
world. At that time the company spoke with her about prospective
funeral preparations for our nations 38th president, but she was
asked to keep the discussion in strict confidence.

Designing funeral flowers is perhaps one of the most important
tasks florists take on. Funeral flowers are one of the last
things we can do to show our love and respect for our departed
loved ones, so they have to be perfect. That's why it's all the
more important to carefully select the right florist for your
needs. Whenever possible, work with a florist you've had good
experiences with in the past so that you are comfortable asking
for exactly what you want.

And, if you live in Jessica Simpson's birth state, what better
recommendation for a florist could you have than one like Gerland
who has designed funeral flowers for one of America's important
presidential figures.
