During the American Idol season, Yamin revealed that he is not only 90% deaf in one ear, but he also suffers from diabetes. With health issues like these, Yamin has probably spent some time in the hospital and received his share of floral deliveries to boost his spirits during illness. He's not alone. Millions of people in American receive get-well flowers every year. Flowers are an excellent way to help someone who is ill feel better, and they may even aid the recovery of an individual who's been hospitalized. In a study conducted at Rutgers University, State University of Indiana, flowers were proven to immediately improve the emotional state of those who received them. And, since many people-doctors included-believe that a positive attitude goes a long way toward a person's ability to recover from disease and injury, it stands to reason that flowers can act as nature's medicine and help individual's to get better faster. Sending flowers to someone who is ill, whether they're in the hospital or recovering at home, is surprisingly easy. If you're uncertain of what to send, how to order, or whether or not the hospital has specific policies concerning flowers, your florist is an excellent source of information and assistance. Florists deliver flowers to the hospitals in their area on a daily basis. As a result, they're generally aware of how the hospital handles deliveries. For example, some hospitals have designated areas in the room where flowers can be placed. The local florist is likely to be aware of such policies and have some idea of what size or style of arrangement is appropriate. Choosing the right flowers for your loved one can sometimes be difficult and confusing if you're not experienced with the process. If that's the case, your florist will be more than happy to walk you through and can even offer some advice about the kinds of flowers the recipient might like. All you need to do is call your florist and answer some easy questions about the recipient, such as: * Is the recipient male or female? * Is the recipient a child or adult? * What is the recipient's favorite color or colors? * Does the recipient have a favorite flower? * Does the recipient have a hobby that could be incorporated into the arrangement? Flowers really are nature's miracle. A gift of brightly colored, beautiful flowers is certain to aid the recovery of anyone who's in need of a little extra emotional boost. They may even have helped ex-American Idol hopeful Elliot Yamin. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Wesley Berry is member of the American Academy of Floriculture (AAF) and President of Wesley Berry Flowers, a successful multi-million dollar floral business that was established in 1946.
