But, there's no chance of enjoying the green today, you've got a million things to do around the house. The only thing you're likely to see until sundown is the four walls around you. Relax, you can enjoy some green even if you can't get out of the house! Houseplants are an easy and excellent way to bring some green right into your very own home. Houseplants are an increasingly popular way of bringing the beauty of nature into homes. There are thousands of plant varieties available. And, with so many plants, there's one to be found for almost any lifestyle and to fit any space. Choosing the best plant for you and your home is as easy as visiting your local florist. Florists are often thought of only in connection with flowers, but the truth is that they've got a lot more to offer. Florists are also experts in the selection and care of green and flowering plants. If you're a novice plant owner, your florist can also be your teacher. Before visiting your florist to purchase a green or flowering plant for your home, look around your home to determine where you'd like to place the plant. Keep in mind that plants should be kept away from heat sources, such as heating ducts and appliances. Many people use plants as a decorative element on top of their television sets or other appliances, but that's actually one of the worst places you could put them. Heat dries out the plant and will prevent it from producing healthy new growth; it may even lead to the death of the plant. Likewise, you should also keep plants away from cold drafts. Most houseplants are accustomed to warm environments (many are even tropical), so they don't do well in the cold. During your home walk-through, take note of the light levels in possible plant locations. Different plants require different levels of light. Some plants will flourish in bright, sunny places while others will wither and die. You'll also need to take the space available into consideration. Plants come in many different sizes, and some will grow considerably, while others will remain a fairly constant size. You may even find it helpful to take pictures of the spaces you'd like to place plants and provide those to your florist who can help you choose the perfect plant to enhance the area. Don't be afraid to ask as many questions as you need to get the most out of your plant purchase. Your florist is there to help you. Getting a little green in your life can be easier and less frustrating than aiming for the golf green when you enlist the help of your florist! --------------------------------------------------------------------- Wesley Berry is member of the American Academy of Floriculture (AAF) and President of Wesley Berry Flowers, a successful multi-million dollar floral business that was established in 1946.
