Seniors Keep Smiling With A Healthy Diet Of Flowers

Article Description:
====================

Eat flowers? You're probably thinking that's crazy! Actually,
it's not-there are some varieties of edible flowers, but that's
not really what I mean. I mean to say that seniors who receive
flowers as gifts are happier than those who don't. It's a proven
fact!

Eat flowers? You're probably thinking that's crazy! Actually,
it's not-there are some varieties of edible flowers, but that's
not really what I mean. I mean to say that seniors who receive
flowers as gifts are happier than those who don't. It's a
proven fact!

A study conducted in 2001 at Rutgers, the State University of New
Jersey, showed that flowers helped seniors to feel less
depressed, kept their memories fresher, and inspired the to seek
out connection with friends and family. The study involved over
100 senior citizens, some of whom received flowers, and some who
did not. The results of the study were as follows:

 * 81 percent stated they felt less depressed after getting
flowers.

 * 40 percent said they sought out connection with people beyond
their normal social circles.

 * 72 percent achieved higher scores on memory tests when they
received flowers in comparison to those who did not.

This study is great news since our population is aging every day.
As a matter of fact, there are 40 million senior citizens in the
United States today. With numbers like that, I doubt that
there's a single person reading this article who isn't either a
senior citizen themselves or who doesn't have a loved one who is
a senior citizen. And, naturally, we want to live longer and we
want those we love to live longer. We also want to be happy as we
age. Flowers are a very simple way to do that. Dr. Jeannette
Haviland-Jones, who led this important study, states, "Happier
people live longer, healthier lives and are more open to change.
Our research shows that a small dose of nature, like flowers, can
do a world of wonder for our well-being as we age."

There's really no easier way to make an enormous difference in
your loved one's day than to pick up the phone or stop by the
florist and send a gift of flowers. You don't even need a
special occasion to do so-very often the best reason to send
flowers is just because you care. Your florist can help you
choose the perfect flowers for anyone in your life-your
grandmother, your grandfather, your aunt, your elderly
neighbor-ANYONE! You can send a gift of flowers without ever
leaving your desk. Just pick up the phone and give your florist
some idea of who the flowers are for (male, female, relative,
etc.), what you'd like to express with the flowers, your price
range, and a little about the person's personality and favorite
colors. Your florist will do the rest.
