Even many seasoned tea drinkers have never tried Lapsang
Souchong. But, Lapsang Souchong is one of the most famous and
popular Chinese teas and certainly worth your time.

Lapsang Souchong is a smoked tea that originated in the Fujian
province of China. The smoking process gives Lapsang Souchong a
very distinct flavor and aroma. True Lapsang Souchong is fairly
rare, because it is only produced in the Wuyi Mountains, where
there are thick pine forests and heavy mists.

Legend has it that Lapsang Souchong’s smoking process was
discovered by accident. The story goes that during the Qing
Dynast, an army unit camped in a tea factory that was filled with
fresh tea leaves waiting processing. The army unit got the tea
growers off schedule, and when they went back to their jobs after
the troops left, they realized that they were so far behind
schedule that they could never get the tea to market on time.

With no time to dry the tea leaves in the usual way, they lit
open fires of pine wood to speed up the drying process. They made
it to market on time - and with a new tea that was an immediate
hit. It made this same great impression when it was introduced to
Western Europe several years later.

Today, many tea drinkers enjoy Lapsang Souchong with food, and it
is especially delicious with spicy foods. But, it’s also
delightful when enjoyed on its own. But, it’s important to know
that you’re getting true Lapsang Souchong. Some tea processors
put ordinary black tea through a smoking process and then call it
Lapsang Souchong. But, the only true Lapsang Souchong is that
grown in the Fujian Province of China.

For some, Lapsang Souchong is an acquired taste, because of the
distinct smokiness and many nuances to the flavors. It may take
you a couple of tries, but you’re sure to love this unusual tea.

Since it is recognized that some tea that is labeled Lapsang
Souchong isn’t the real thing, tea drinkers wonder where they
should purchase their Lapsang Souchong in order to be sure
they’re getting the genuine article.

Well, one good place to start is with a quality Lapsang Souchong.

At least one supplier has taken great care to create an
extraordinary Lapsang Souchong for their customers. This dark
black tea was smoked over pine embers before being processed and
aged to perfection. The flavor is very distinct, and the tea has
a bold color and a wonderful aroma.

A quality will always forge relationships with the best tea
gardens in the world and purchase only the best leaves these tea
gardens can supply. Choosing tea can be difficult, since there is
no international grading standard for it. Each country grades
their tea differently and each variety may be graded differently
as well. So, it’s incumbent upon companies to do a lot of
investigation about the tea they’re considering for purchase if
they want to get the very best in quality. Quality tea suppliers
have put time and effort into researching every tea leaf that is
purchased, and this is how they can promise you the very best.

Tea has gained enormous popularity in the Western World in recent
years. And the biggest growth has been among blended and
specialty teas, like Lapsang Souchong. Market researchers expect
this surge in tea popularity to increase over the next few years,
so there are sure to be an abundance of new teas hitting store
shelves. This makes it even more important for tea lovers to have
a tea retailer that they can trust to only provide the best
products.

When you choose a quality tea, you have an assurance that the tea
is a good value, too. When you look at the price of a quality
tea, you may initially think that the price seems a bit high.
But, it’s important to take into consideration the fact that
quality suppliers work s hard to make their teas of a quality and
strength to encourage multiple infusions. So, when you’re making
two cups (or sometimes more) of tea from the same loose leaves,
you have immediately doubled your value! Lesser quality teas
cannot be used for multiple infusions, so while you may spend
less on initial purchase, you’ll be heading back to the store to
purchase another package far more quickly.

When shopping a quality tea purveyor look at those that have
actually won competitive tea awards and not just claims of
quality. National events like the World Tea Expo generally award
the best tea special consideration.

And, finally, you can generally count on quality tea suppliers to
give you a prompt refund if you ever purchase a tea from them
that you don’t like. When you’re trying new teas, like Lapsang
Souchong, it’s nice to know that returning the product is no
hassle if the flavor turns out to be, well, “not your cup of
tea”.

If you’ve never given Lapsang Souchong a try, the time is now.
This smoky tea is sure to become one of your favorites. And,
choosing a quality Lapsang Souchong ensures you’re getting
quality tea that comes with a quality promise.
