Think Twice: Tattoos Could Last A Lifetime

Tattooing yourself seems like a really cool idea when you're
young, but the reality is permanently staining your body with ink
is a horrible idea. There are so many reasons to think twice,
before going to the tattoo shop.

Many people have realized only after the fact that they now
regret the decision they made the night they went to the tattoo
shop.

Tattoos seem so very awesome when you're a teenager. Even though
you might not think so, you will one day grow up to be an adult.
As an adult, you might not think so highly of tattoos. In fact,
you might grow up to find that you find tattoos might make a
person look trashy or unattractive.

Know this: fads come and go more quickly than you can imagine.
What was totally cool in the eighties and nineties are now
considered lame. Can you imagine the regret some people now
experience for having gotten Vanilla Ice or Hammer Time tattoos?
Can you imagine the ribbing they get from family or friends for
having chosen such a lame tattoo?

Believe it or not, your tastes will change as you grow older.
Remember how much you loved Barney when you were a kid, and how
stupid you think he is now? You will probably feel that same way
about what's cool today - ten years from now. Life is a
continual process of maturing and changing.

Tattoos might seem like a wonderful way to express yourself. But,
do yourself a favor and take up poetry, creative writing, or
other art forms. If you choose tattooing to express yourself,
you're bound to regret it.

Think back to a past girlfriend or boyfriend, to those strong
feelings you had for her or him. Now think about how you feel
about them now. This goes to show you that even the deepest
emotions can be fickle, or can change completely.

Even if you think you have the perfect tattoo picked out, one
that seems timeless, one you would never ever want to get
removed, consider this: people might make fun of it. My husband
got his initials tattooed on his upper arm, and he's been
regretting it ever since... People have made comments like, did
you think you were going to forget your name? The tattoo itself
is in weird lettering such that people think it says 3R instead
of JR.

He had wanted to get it removed, but we simply didn't have the
money for many years.

Though you've probably heard it before, you should also think
about future employment opportunities. Sure, right now you might
not think you'll ever want to work at a place that cares about
appearances, but in the future you probably will, because you'll
need to make real money. Having a tattoo on your neck, forearms,
or hands will severely limit your employment options.

Tattoos could even hinder your personal growth. Right now you
might love the goth scene, or the skater scene, but in a few
years, you might want to change, and tattoos will make that
harder. Like it or not, people do make judgments based on
appearances.

In the end, it is your choice... By all means, get a tattoo, if
that's what you want to do. But beware: there are consequences
for every choice you make in this lifetime. If you're just
wanting to rebel, consider getting an earring: it's cheap and
easily undone.

Tattooing your body is simply not the wisest decision you can
make - especially when this decision will have long-term and
permanent consequences...
