Respironics Upgrades the Comfort Gel - My CPAP Gel Mask Keeps Breaking!

We have all been there, the endless search for that perfect CPAP
mask. Contacting several companies, checking blogs, and customer
feedback trying to determine which mask is best suited for my
face. Sometimes, the search seems fruitless. You, of course, are
not alone.

Our top selling mask over the past 2 years has been the
Respironics Comfort Gel nasal mask ( Supporting Image:
http://thephantomwriters.com/client-img/oldnew-cpap.jpg ). In the
course of many customer reviews a common thread has emerged: The
headgear keeps the mask secure so that it does not move easily
and the gel cushion creates an excellent seal which molds to your
face. This is all wonderful news, until you experience the sound
of cracking plastic.

A few years ago Respironics, examined the two lower connecting
ball and socket connection of the gel mask which had a tendency
to break during sleep. Respironics determined this was a fragile
point and needed a redesign. The decision to strengthen this area
has been well received by our customers, as many of them became
discouraged with the constant breaking. Although Respironics did
honor their standard 90-day warranty, CPAP users simply wanted
the mask to not break so easily. The newer version of the mask
was released and this improvement did extend the effective life
of the mask. However many users did not view this as a
significant improvement over the original design and still
experienced breaking issues after only 2 or 3 months of use.

The Wait Is Over!

Respironics went back to the drawing board and recently began
shipping a new and improved version of their most popular mask;
the Comfort Gel Nasal Mask. This time they got it right. Without
disturbing the well designed gel cushion and forehead assembly,
they simply reinforced the weak points at the connection head
gear connection points. Keeping the same ball and joint design,
the added plastic braces the mask against the constant pulling
and jerking that occurs during CPAP use. We have put the new
design through some rigorous testing and the new design holds up
much better than the original mask.

>From our own customer surveys, the issue which is at the top of
the list of concerns is the masks durability. With the
Respironics Comfort Gel, once the ball and socket clips break,
the mask was rendered useless. The new version completely
addressed that concern while maintaining the overall durability
and dependability of the mask seal which continues to deliver a
consistently high comfort and satisfaction level.
