If your scraps are connected on 2 or more places, you may use option -count N 
with join command, where N is number of connections, therion should look for 
(join scrap1 scrap2 -count 2).

Sometimes it doesn't work. E.g. when outline or connection place is not 
correctly determined or more than 2 scraps connect at one place. If it is your 
case, you need to use join to connect only lines or specific line points.
