I'll give it a try for the needed sourcecode:
within your config file and layout definition:
...
text en "area u:specialfill" "your text" % this will show "your
text" in the legend
...
code metapost
...
def a_u_specialfill (expr p) =
T:=identity;
thfill p withcolor (0.6, 0.8, 1);
enddef;
initsymbol("a_u_specialfill");
...
endcode
...
Finally in your .th2 file use:
area u:specialfill
<borderline may be with option invisible>
...
endarea
You also can do this by using the mapeditor and inside the area part with Typ u.
Type in the field "Type" "u:specialfill".
Finally select all your borders for this area.
