It's something like 8.9 inches I think.

You didn't get the 10 inch one, did you?

My thanks to everyone again.  I'm writing to you right now on my brand new Acer Aspire netbook.  While it may not be the premier netbook on the market, for $350 it's pretty darn good!

Thanks again!  Y'all are the best!

You guys are awesome!  Thanks so much for all the suggestions.  This is a perfect example of how useful this listserv can be!

I found out there is an Office Depot, Radio Shack, and Wal-Mart out here.  I'm going to cruise through those to see what deals they have based upon y'alls feedback.

I like the idea of a Netbook, but would miss a CD/DVD drive.  That would make it difficult to install programs, and watch movies (which I do from time to time).  I could always get an external, or simply adjust.

Your suggestions have been great.  I really appreciate it!

Crap. Crap. Crap.  I'm in Colorado on vacation, first morning here... and my dang laptop hard drive dies. I'm using one of the hotel computers right now.  I need to just go buy a new laptop.  My old one isn't worth saving (hard drive problems, CD-ROM drive problems, wireless internet problems, and it's old).

Any recommendations from the geeks on what laptop to buy and where to buy it?  Here are my criteria:
  • I don't want to spend too much money (I figure there has got to be some great deals right now with the holidays).
  • I probably don't need an incredibly powerful laptop.  I'm not a gamer, so that's not an issue.  Basically I'll just be using it for internet applications, Microsoft Office, Photoshop, stuff like that.
  • I want a brand I can trust, maybe even with a warranty (if they have such things for laptops).
  • Needs to have wireless internet.  I imagine most laptops nowadays have this, but I figured it was worth mentioning.
  • Ideally, I'd love to buy one out here in Colorado so I can be connected this coming week.  I'm in a small town called Beaver Creek, near Avon and Vail.  Not sure what major stores are around, but I know there is a Wal-Mart. If getting a new laptop isn't feasible while in Colorado, that's perfectly fine.  That's just my best-case wish.
Any suggestions on what laptop to buy and where to buy it?  Any help is appreciated.  I'll try to check back on the hotel computer soon.

Thanks y'all!
