Well, for the past couple of years I've wanted to do something that combined
my past as a chef with my current interest in comics (for those who don't
know, I do the webcomics Cocktail Hour and Where the Geeks Are). The idea is
finally coming together.

What to Feed Your Raiding Party will be half comic book and half cookbook
and written with gamers as the primary audience though I hope it will also
appeal to lovers of geek culture in general.

Divided into 5 sections, each will open with a 6-12 page comic featuring a
core cast of characters--a gamer guy, his dog, and a gamer girl--who've been
sent on a series of food-related quests (that share some basic concepts with
geek films and books--I'm not at all above parodies and puns!). Following
that will be 10-15 recipes that share some aspect of the story that just
preceded it (the sections being appetizers/snacks; loafs, casseroles, etc.;
grilling; soups and stews; and desserts & beverages).

To facilitate both the feeding of small groups or families as well as larger
groups, each recipe will feature a chart of ingredients factored out for 4,
8 and 12 servings as well as nutritional data with a twist: carbs will be
represented as health or constitution, protein as strength and fats as
dexterity modifiers. Each will also be rated with experience and equipment
levels to make it easy to navigate for the beginning cook as well as some
interesting items for the more experienced cook. I'll be illustrating
certain techniques throughout the book (knife skills, visual definitions,
etc.), too.

(Shameless self-promotion follows)

I'm using Kickstarter.com as a platform to raise the funds required to bring
this project from idea to reality--mainly to cover the printing costs (150
pages perfect bound, with an initial quantity of 250), ISBN registration,
nutritional software and art supplies. In return, backers receive
private-access production updates and a variety of other rewards based on
pledge level (everything from copies of the book to original art to recipes
named after the backer). Hence the current "media blitz" that I'm on.

Even MORE details on the project can be found on the Kickstarter page.
