So, we went to see Dances With Smurfs tonight. It was the most gorgeous cliche I've ever seen. It lives up to the special effects billing; the animation is absolutely breathtaking. Fantastic. The plot, however, is like hamburger casserole- a hodge podge of leftovers tossed together with little effort to disguise where the ingredients came from. There will undoubtedly be some criticism for the blatant anti-Americanist, anti-capitalist, and pro-New Age-y message that the film beats you over the head with. That being said, it was thoroughly enjoyable. I definitely recommend it, and have no doubts it will be a commercial success even with its rumored astronomical cost of production.
