I think they are going to have a hard time competing with Apple. Past tablet's from PC maker's have been clunky devices that try to be too many things. I actually like the fact that the iPad isn't a full fledged laptop. It shouldn't be. It would great more complexity than I would want in a simple portable media device.
Also, having the iTunes store is a huge advantage. There's nothing comparable to it that's as slick and integrated with a product. That was a big part of the reason the iPod took off.
