Hi, all,

This fall marks the 15th Anniversary of the AvengersAssemble.net web
site, in all of its various incarnations over the years. Fifteen
years! Amazing, huh?

When I created the site as a grad student lo those many years ago at
Auburn, it consisted of a single page with a few scanned images and
some strong commentary. Who back then could have guessed it would
bring together so many great and talented contributors, welcome
millions of visitors, and go on on to spawn the MV-1 FanFiction
Project (and thus give rise to many more superhero-related fanfic
sites), the Avengers Mailing List (AML) and West Coast Avengers
Mailing List (WCAML), the AvengersAssemble Message Board, the annual
"Avengers Dinners" and Jeopardy tournaments at DragonCon, the awards
plaques to Kurt Busiek, George Perez, and Tom Brevoort in 1999, the
ASSEMBLED! books to benefit the HERO Initiative, the Sentinels books
(along with basically the rest of my writing career!), a bevy of other
creations (and destructions!), and of course also give rise to a few
unfortunate "security leaks" along the way...??

Please stop by the site (which is currently in the beginning phase of
a long-needed makeover) and check out the anniversary logo on Tom
Smith's classic Ultron artwork from 1999.

While you're there, click through to this year's annual
AvengersAssemble Auctions on Ebay, where we've listed a number of
great deals on hardcover and softcover collections-- with more
listings coming later tonight and tomorrow.

Proceeds from the annual Auctions go to help maintain the
AvengersAssemble.net site, as well as helping defray the travel costs
of sending me to various conventions to talk Avengers, host trivia
contests, give away prizes, and so on.

While I feel little love for the current incarnation of the Avengers,
and (frankly) no longer have a ton of interest in running basically a
"fan site" when I have my own properties I'd rather be spending
precious time on, I could never just walk away from the Avengers site.
It was there at the beginning-- heck, it was one of the first
comics-related fan sites ever on the Internet, for crying out loud!--
and it's here to stay. I only want to see it get better and better
from here on out.

Thanks and, as always-- Avengers Assemble!
