It's a very traditional game, and we're all quite fond of it. One
year we discussed not playing it, and there was the most frightful
row. Through the dewy mist of memory I recall a stranger seeing us
for the first time, and she said, "Why, you're just boys playing at
tigers. You're not proper werewolves at all," and we said, "Join
us, little morsel, and see," and join us she did, and soon enough
she too was "playing at tigers," and lowing and moaning quite along
with the rest of us. I recall Shaggins turning to me and
remarking, "What deucedly fine sport this is," and I replied, "Oh,
Shaggins. Dear old thing. Dear, dear old Shaggins, I am so very
fond of you."
