I've been meaning to post this for a long time. This is just an F.Y.I. history lesson to the veterans and the rookies of this The Unique Geek listserv. Come November of this year, The Unique Geek will be six years old. It all started on a Linux web server I had running out of my bedroom at home. theuniqugeek.com domain wasn't even around yet but our geek forum was running in YaBB on a generic domain that no longer exist. I purchased theuniquegeek.com in February of 2005 and then moved the forum to phpBB on a hosted server. Sometime toward the end of 2005 (I think), someone had the crazy idea of starting a podcast. If I remember correctly, we recorded episode #1 of The Unique Geek podcast sometime at the beginning of 2006. Then, some other crazy person had the idea of moving our forum to Google Groups for the listserv functionality. When we first started out on YaBB in my bedroom, we had, maybe, 7 of us in the group...wait...that doesn't sound right. You know what I mean. Since then the group, according to Google Groups, has grown to over 200. Of course, out of those numbers, realistically, and consistently, we've have about 50 or so in our group (does that number sound right Serv, Shag, and Jon?). May we live strong, and stronger, for another 6 years and beyond.
