It's already been announced that Verizon will be adopting AT&T's limited bandwidth plans. It was just a matter of time; traditional ISPs have quietly implemented the same limits- Comcast has an unspoken limit to their cable internet service, even though they until just recently have publicized it as 'unlimited' (as well as the documented throttling of certain types of traffic).
I chose to downgrade from AT&T's unlimited wireless data for $30 for the 2 GB/month $25 plan. I'm a fairly heavy user of my iPhone, but I've never topped 1 GB of wireless data via the cellular network. I think this shift in plans has more to do with tethering and pending video services like Netflix than current use patterns.
