Ron - Typically you can figure out what Doctor/era a book is targeted.  It's very, very rare for them to leave it ambiguous.  In fact, the only book I can think of where they didn't identify the Doctor/era was "The Infinity Doctors".  It was sort of a "What If" story, so that made sense to be vague.  So to answer your question, I always picture the Doctor the book is about.

For me personally, I gravitate towards books about the Seventh (Sylvester McCoy), Eighth (Paul McGann), and Tenth Doctor (David Tennant).  I'm sure I'll start reading the 11th Doctor books as well (Matt Smith).  I've read books about each Doctor (love me some Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Doctor!), but the ones I mentioned above had very long runs in novel form, so I gravitate towards them.

Question for Shag and other Doc Who readers:  If the book doesn't have a companion that is associated with a specific doc, do you automatically picture whoever is on the cover while reading, or is there a specific Doc you always or more often pick?  Like, do you say, "Sure, it's got Rose in it, but I'm going with Tom Baker."?  If there isn't any pic on the cover and no other identifying details, which Doc do you imagine?

I think I've got some Doctor Who books in other formats as well.  I'll drop you a line once I look.

Thanks Shag. I have to see if this thing can read PDF format eBooks
or not, but I will let you know! My wife seems to like the new Doctor
Who (at least she liked it when Tennant was on, we haven't seen any of
Smith and she started watching after Ecclestein) so she might be
interested!
