That's a really good question. Being that I do not have surround sound but use this feature quite often via Xbox 360 I may be wrong in my speculation. For the most part, I do not believe it is in surround sound, but I could be wrong. As for the HD content on Netflix streaming, I am pretty sure it is in surround sound. I will do some research to find out. But, you have to assume that Netflix is setup correctly as there are many ways to view Netflix streaming content: 1.) on your computer through the browser with typical computer sound system/speakers (which I think you can now view true HD content this way also as of recent updates on Netflix) 2.) through a computer with HDMI connection to a HDMI receiver or HDTV, or 3.) through one of the game consoles with HDTV connection and surround sound receiver. So, using #2 or #3 option, I will see what I can find out.
