A very interesting article/Q&A about boot times, BIOS and UEFI. One part in the article it is mentioned that a PC booted in 75 milliseconds. That is definitely "instant on". I am looking forward to the day that is common with every OS too. Unfortunately, we could be 10 to 15 years before we see that. We have some IBM blades at work using UEFI and it has been stated that we are supposed to see faster boot times over BIOS. I haven't seen it. In fact, I have some blades with the legacy BIOS that boot faster than the UEFI. But I guess it is going to take some time to work out the kinks in the hardware and software in the UEFI before we see faster boot times.
