What we're all afraid of in the Auburn Family right now is that Petrino will go to Florida (which will improve Florida) and that our awesome OC, Gus Malzahn, will be hired at Arkansas to replace him (aagggghhhh!!!!).
Malzahn is (famously) from Arkansas, and Vanderbilt just offered him $3 million for seven years to be their head coach. That's about double what his current boss, Gene Chizik, makes at Auburn! I don't want Gus's crazy fantastic offense in the service of one of our divisional rivals! As for Stoops, because he was DC for Spurrier on their 1996 national title team, and because he has a house in Florida next to either AD Jeremy Foley's or Spurrier's (or both--I forget), his name always comes up whenever there's an opening in Gainesville. He was mentioned before they settled on Ron Zook in 2002 and hired Meyer in 2005. But why in the name of sanity would he leave a cushy job in Norman, where he can annually run roughshod over sub-par competition, to make a semi- lateral move to take roughly the same money for less job security in a harder conference? The real question in my mind right now, aside from how big of a win Cam will have in the Heisman race tonight (given that several writers have publicly said they won't vote for him), is who will Auburn hire to replace Malzahn? And speaking of stupid writers not voting for Cam (because his dad did something wrong*) -- they are instead publicly saying they'll vote for LaMichael James (Oregon RB who beat up his girlfriend) or Blackmon (OSU WR who was arrested for DUI with numerous friends in the car in August).
