so this is a related question, but not specifically on point with this
thread.

Sony got hacked and before that Epsilon Data Management was hacked (the
holder of a lot of info for many companies such as Citi, American Express,
Delta, etc
http://www.businessrecord.com/main.asp?SectionID=45&SubSectionID=136&ArticleID=12925)
my question is this...when do we as members of the public have the
right
to file suit against these companies for damages? The Sony article suggests
that if you have a credit card on file that you get a new card, they also
suggest you file a fraud alert with the credit bureaus. All these things
take time and are at a minimum inconvenient. If an actual identity theft
took place and caused more serious hardship there is a price to pay for
that. I have never heard of a case against a company that held info that was
hacked, but as a consumer who may give info to some companies, that info
needs to be kept safe and if it isn't, what would my right for recourse be?

I just suspect that class action suits are coming on all this and i wonder
where that may go...if only the ThUGs had someone with legal experience and
training (Ron)
