Except it's not. I'm the biggest Hawkman fan I know, and I am willing to bet probably the biggest Hawkman fan any of you know, and even I think that the potential for a Hawkman film is incredibly slim.
Could such a story work on film? Yes, I think so. Open in ancient Egypt, as Khufu and Chay-era oversea the investigation of the Thanagarian ship, followed by their murder by Hath-Set. Cut to present day and archeologist Carter Hall has recovered several mysterious artifacts from a dig in Egypt. This gets the attention of one Dr. Anton Hastor, who wants to study the properties of the strange metal artifacts. Carter ends up coming having all of his memories restored by one artifact (the Absorbascon), which leads him to a secret chamber where he finds Khufu and Chay-era's tomb and their wings. Hastor uses another one of the artifacts (Dimensiometer) to equip master thief Carl Sands with Shadow powers, allowing him to break into the Midway City museum to obtain the other alien artifacts. This leads to a fight with new hero Hawkman, and from there we introduce Shiera Saunders, get flashback montages of their past lives, and eventually lead to the final confrontation between Hawkman and Hastor, which brings in Shiera as Hawkwoman to make the save. But even as I read this as a Hawkman fan I KNOW that such a story is too convoluted to make much sense on screen. Audiences only like complex films when they are artsy like Inception. For now DC needs to focus on making Hawkman the best character they can in the comics and get his popularity and awareness up before trying to tackle such a project.
