IMHO, if the actor/actress is truly a good performer, you'd forget about their antics off-screen. Some performers make it a point to stay out of the public eye to help the audience see them as the character that they are portraying- not as themselves.
When your life outside of work starts to define the character you see on screen, I'd say that they are willing to type-cast themselves or are just incredibly short sighted. I guess that some folks value their publicity more than their craft. I don't give two hoots about Megan Fox, but I do like Lyndsy Fonseca in Nikita. Good suggestion, Ed.
