I have not read it. In fact I have only vaguely heard of it. I have always heard that it was more the popularity of Resident Evil which lead to the reawakening of the zombie subgenre. The games were a big hit, and in turn lead to such things as the ResEvil movie, the remake of Dawn of the Dead, Romero starting his new Dead films, The Walking Dead, Keene's "The Rising," and so forth. In fact, I have heard "The Rising" and it's sequels called the book which kickstarted the concept of modern "zombie lit." Although, there was an anthology written in 1989 called "Book of the Dead" which predates them.
