I cant read the entire article yet, but a couple of errors have already jumped
out. To state that Microsoft is leading in innovation is grossly overstating
their accomplishments. The list of innovations he cites doesn't truly consist
of such; most of those products were either revisions to product lines or
answers to competitors. Neither bring anything revolutionary to the market. The
only thing innovative Microsoft has released that comes to mind is the Kinect.
He's getting excited about a kickstand? Really? The keyboards are cool, but to
include a trackpad on devices that are supposed to focus on touch as their
primary means of input seems strange. At any rate I'd wager it won't be long
before you see something similar for both Android and iOS devices.
Secondly, their tablets won't be completely compatible with each other, much
less the rest of the product line. ARM and x86 processors don't mix.
To be honest, I expect Windows 8 phones and tablets to have at least mild
success- there are too many people that don't want Apple products, and Android
has had a hard time living up to its potential (especially in tablets). The
desktop version still looks like a hot mess to me though.
