I'll be that guy... I'll be skipping the three Hobbit movies in theaters. If it was one film, I'd probably go see it. Three movies? No thanks. I'll catch them on Netflix.
While I enjoyed the Lord of the Rings films, they weren't "Must See" movies for me. I guess because it's Fantasy. Fantasy has never really been my thing. I'm the kind of guy that resents bookstores that put Sci-Fi and Fantasy together in the same section. I can certainly appreciate how well put together the previous three films were. They were breathtakingly beautiful, acted very well, and wonderfully scored. It's just the subject matter that barely holds my interest. I know the story of The Hobbit already, so I'm even less inclined to get excited about shelling out for three more movies. It seems they are dragging it out in order to make more money, not for storytelling. I'm sure Peter Jackson can fill three movies, but it seems more motivated by the studios in order to get more cash. Oh what the heck, why not make them 3D also! Maybe invent a new up-charge, "Smell-o-Vision"!
