Well, what Ed says is pretty much exactly what I would get it for.  I use 
my (wife's) Kindle now as a cheap comic book and regular book device which 
I sometimes look up things on Wikipedia or post to Twitter from.  I'd be 
more than happy with that functionality in a device, especially if it meant 
no monthly data plan (I can live with WiFi).
 
I have said from the beginning of the tablet race that these things will 
only become dominant in an actual market share sense (and not just in a 
"golly gee!" sense) when the price comes down so much as to make them 
ubiquitous, as happened with cell phones.  This is another step in that 
direction.
