First off congrats on starting your new gig.  I remember you saying that it 
started today (over on G+, ironically).  Best of luck!
 
I am beginning to think that this is an IE 8 combined with the company 
firewall issue.  Sometimes (now, for instance, as I am typing this), the G+ 
buttons show up at the top of the screen, but if I click them, they either 
say that I am running in Compatiblity Mode (which I am not), or that the 
service is unavailable.  So I don't think it is a setting I can change, but 
a symptom of where I am accessing the Internet from.
 
I'll have to check it out at home as well... of course that will be on 
Chrome, not IE, so who knows.
