I think there needs to be some clarification/differentiation. If i didn't know the movie was supposed to be based on the novel WWZ, and i watched this trailer and was asked to give feedback on what i just saw blindly, i would say that this movie seems ok. I wouldn't necessarily be able to say that there are zombies. You never get a real look at anyone that appears undead. Watching this with an open mind and trying to take my 'geek union card and glasses' off, this looks like an interesting film depicting a total collapse of society for an unknown reason. Almost like a depiction of society's total breakdown and how a few 'elite' will hold it together and survive. Under this intentional open minded/uninformed watch, it is clear that part of or most of the human race has gone mad and only a few very well placed individuals can continue with 'society as we know it'. The scene at the end of the trailer that Ed disliked was actually very visually very impressive to me. Like the 'persons' were ants using each other to climb the obstacle in front of them. An interesting visual (to me). The viewing also makes it clear that this film a total action flick. Lots of military hardware in the trailer and lots of bullets flying...hello target audience of men 15-30. With the intent of watching this as an uninformed man on the street who has no idea what WWZ is...this is mildly intriguing and might get a viewing in the theater, but would certainly be worth putting in my Netflix queue or picking up at RedBox.
Now, as a geek who has read WWZ and enjoyed it immensely, this sucks. The trailer appears to completely disregard the source material aside from the (apparent) appearance of zombies. The scope of the film (as much as i can determine form the trailer) may cover a year of time and doesn't engage in some of the most interesting tales that the book weaved for us. I still weep that HBO didn't pick this up as an ongoing series. That being said, i will probably still watch this, but not in the theater and not immediately upon availability on NetFlix.
