Waited to read this post until we went to see the film: I really enjoyed it for many of the same reasons you did.
My one, tiny little complaint was regarding the whiskey shot scene. Bond takes his shot, misses, then the villain pops the girl. Bond then pulls some amazing maneuvers to get out of the situation. Why couldn't he have pulled those same moves BEFORE the villain popped the girl? Its a small thing, and what happened reinforced the villain as a baddy, but it bothered me a little.
