Video Of The Day – Doctor Who: Besieged, Part 1 by Gene Turnbow Part 1 of the Dr Who / Alien fan film. The Doctor and his Companion are summoned aboard the HMS Archer, a military research vessel in deep space, trapped by an unknown and unstoppable alien force. Here, as promised, is the first episode of the amazing fan-made Doctor Who series, Doctor Who: Besieged. It’s a Doctor Who / Aliens crossover story, the kind of thing you’d never see in the real show because of licensing issues. But since Besieged is a fan film, made not for profit but for the love of it, they can do stuff like this and we get to enjoy the results. It’s a Doctor Who / Aliens crossover fan film series, and done entirely for fun and the love of it. The first of the films was finished in 2010 to great acclaim from the British Doctor Who fandom community. They’ve recently released the second episode, and there is a delightful cluster of teasers and prequels and trailers presented as a body of work, done similarly to the way the BBC has been doing the same thing for the real Doctor Who series. The casting choices are interesting. When I first noticed that writer / producer Ryan Hendrick had cast himself in the title role, I admit my first thought was, “Oh, boy, here we go – it’s a Gary Sue production.” (with thanks to Susan Fox for the delightful turn of phrase, which I shamelessly borrow here). But Hendrick surprises by turning in a solid, airtight performance as the Doctor. His companion Ade (pronounced Ay-dee) is played by Natalie Clarke, who brings a quirky sense of humor and a vibrant energy to the screen which perfectly counterpoints this more thoughtful incarnation of the Timelord she travels with. Be prepared to spend 45 minutes watching this episode. Run it full screen, turn out the lights, turn the speakers up and really watch it – it’s done to the same format as the real show, as Hendrick and company seem bent on not only recreating Doctor Who as a visual experience for us, but on recreating the entire production experience for themselves as well. And what a splendid job they’re doing. Enjoy. - 30 - Links Doctor Who: Besieged Facebook page Ryan Hendricks’ Facebook page Visual effects Paul Reeves : http://paulartreeves.blogspot.com Visual effects Vanessa-May Dolphin : http://vmdolphin.blogspot.co.uk Posted by Gene Turnbow at 8:44 am Tagged with: Ade, aliens, Doctor Whi: Besieged, Doctor Who, Fan film, Natalie Clarke, Ridley Scott, Ryan Hendricks What do you think? -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "The Unique Geek" group.
