Everything at DC revolves around Batman. Man Of Steel made buckets of money both domestically and internationally, but Batman is brought into the sequel because, end of the day, it's Batman's universe now. That is the single biggest problem I have with DC as an IP entity is their obsession with Batman. The idea of using DKR as inspiration for a Batman/Superman movie -- note how even the assumed title puts Batman in front, and makes Superman secondary, almost an afterthought in HIS OWN SEQUEL -- also speaks to DC's approach, as that was the story which made it de riguer for Batman to be able to best Superman in a fight. That idea was novel when Miller did it, but after DKR it became the standard. "Oooh Batman can outsmat Superman and beat him!" Bull. The entire idea requires Superman to act like a collossal moron, but DC doesn't care -- they'll sacrifice any character to the golden idol that is Batman and his pile of licensing money. I thought that Man Of Steel had established Superman as a star once again who can carry his own movie. DC even said so. Evidently they were lying.
