I've used a media center PC, a TiVo, and the Apple TV. Apple TV has offered the 
best (and cheapest) experience, the media PC the broadest. Mac Minis make 
perfect media centers- every input you could want is built in, the OS is rock 
solid, the form is compact, and they have plenty of power. The Roku would be a 
good option too for those that don't like Apple. Some here love the promise of 
the Chromecast, but for me it's a little underdeveloped to rely on as my 
primary source.
