I loved CYOA-type books growing up. I'm not a fan of fantasy, so I gravitated towards the CYOA-type of books that focused on sci-fi or modern day. I've even got a few Doctor Who CYOA-type books that were done in conjunction with an old roleplaying system.
In regards to gamebooks... do you mean novels or RPG sourcebooks? I remember reading a Torg novel (based upon the RPG) that was pretty good (shout-out to DUG!). For RPG sourcebooks, I've been re-reading some old DC Heroes RPG books. So good!
