Relativity Abandons 'Stretch Armstrong' Movie

The long-gestating Stretch Armstrong film project has hit another major
roadblock, with Relativity Media ending its involvement.

Relativity and partner Hasbro have quietly taken Stretch Armstrong off the
release calendar. Based on the classic Hasbro toy, the movie was to have opened
April 11, although it never went into production.

STORY: An Oral History of the Never Made 'Stretch Armstrong' Movie

"Stretch Armstrong is an incredible character who will make an amazing movie,
and we know that Hasbro has some new ideas they are looking at," Relativity
said in a statement. "Relativity and Hasbro have a tremendous relationship, and
we decided to focus on other projects. We look forward to continuing to work
together."

Stretch Armstrong was introduced as a toy in 1976. It was different from other
action figures in the sense he could be stretched out, twisted and folded but
always returned to his original form. The toy had a big relaunch in the 1990s,
and that’s when Hollywood took serious interest.

Stretch Armstrong was part of a series of properties that were part of a
Hasbro-Universal pact made in 2008. But after several release dates and even
having Taylor Lautner attached, the project was dropped by Universal and picked
up by Relativity in January 2012.
