Hmmm...

Captain Marvel outsold Superman for most of his existence back in the
forties. To play the character like an underdog in the Golden Age is
missing the fact that Cap and his family appeared in Whiz Comics, Captain
Marvel Adventures, Master Comics (where Captain Marvel, Jr. had a strip),
Wow Comics (where Mary Marvel had a strip) and Captain Marvel, Jr. Comics.
Superman would not develop his extended family until the fifties and yes DC
sued Fawcett but it wasn't just them losing the lawsuit that led them to
cease publishing the books. It was the early fifties and super-hero books
were on the decline.

I get why the director is upset but blaming Superman is just silly. "When
Superman Returns tanked we were good but now that the WB got that going I
can't make my movie." What about all of the other DC characters that don't
have movies out there, especially compared to what Marvel is kicking out?
Then again this article is probably taking a few statements from a press
junket and making them bigger than they are so there's that too.
